Sarah Caulfield is an emerging Canadian soprano who finds joy in adding her voice to an array of repertoire. A 2023 M.Mus graduate from the University of British Columbia, her credits include the title role of Rusalka, Frau Fluth (Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte,) Corinna (Il viaggio a Reims), Giulietta (Les contes d’Hoffmann), Casilda (The Gondoliers), Mrs. Norris (Mansfield Park), and the Madame in Shadow Catch, a Noh theatre-inspired chamber opera set in Vancouver’s Oppenheimer Park. In 2025, she took part in the Bel Canto residency at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance, appeared at the Banff Centre in the ensemble of The Handmaid’s Tale, and joined Good Mess Opera Theatre as Suzy in La Rondine. In the autumn, she looks forward to singing a program of arias with the Vancouver Island Symphony as the soloist for their Bella Italia concerts.
On the concert stage, Sarah has enjoyed solo appearances with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (Traditional Christmas concert tour), Richmond Orchestra (Fauré Requiem), Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra (Handel Dixit Dominus), and has appeared at Bard on the Beach (Opera & Arias), Bach on the Rock (Messiah), and with the UBC Early Music Ensemble. Other highlights include performances of Schubert’s Der Hirt auf dem Felsen and selections by Jack Behrens and Dominick Argento within the trio Erdenlied. Composer collaborations include the premiere of Dr. Matthew-John Knights’ “The Soundscape (1),” featuring text commissioned from the late R. Murray Schafer, and performing Holly Winter’s Song of Hypatia. She is the recipient of a 2025 Winspear Fund grant, a 2024 Early Music Vancouver Scholarship, and awards from the UBC Faculty of Music, the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir, and the Good Noise Choir. At present, Sarah is grateful to reside on Treaty 6 territory – lands of the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, and Nakota Sioux nations (Edmonton, Alberta). native-land.ca
